KoAuthorities said that a well-known lifeguard and surfer was killed by a shark attack close to Oahu’s North Shore.
The Honolulu Emergency Services Department released a statement on Sunday afternoon stating that Tamayo Perry, 49, had been attacked in the sea near Goat Island at midday.
Since 2016,Tamayo Perry has worked as a lifeguard for Honolulu Ocean Safety. His official bio on his coaching site states that he was a local surf coach and a former Pipeline Master Trials competitor.
Tamayo Perry starred in episodes of “Hawaii Five-O” and “The Bridge,” as well as the 2002 film “Blue Crush,” according to IMDB.
According to a statement from Mayor Rick Blangiardi, Perry was a “well-known North Shore waterman” who “exemplified bravery, commitment and a deep sense of duty.”
Goat Island is located on Oahu’s northeastern coast, close to Mālaekahana Beach.
According to authorities, the first emergency contact was received on Sunday at around 1:00 p.m. On a jet ski, Perry’s body was hauled ashore.
EMS officials stated in a statement that “a caller informed dispatchers the man’s body appeared to have suffered more than one shark bite.”
